Micro finance loan officers gearing up for a day with clients |
Today we join with the loan officers to learn more about the Business Development Services (BDS) micro finance program. I could not be more excited about this experience as I have read about the early days of micro finance with the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, studied the concept and even spoke about social entrepreneurship ideas and concepts (like micro finance) for years. Now, I will see it functioning up close, meet the people who are making it work and learn the stories of the women who are using this opportunity to build micro enterprises that provide economic opportunity and hope for financial provision for their families. Amazing!!
From bad to worse

Caroline's walk to work |
Caroline is a loan officer who took us to the MOHI center in Gitathuru ("guitar-thorough"). She normally walks what takes us 20 minutes by car; on rough terrain through shadowy portions of the slums no less.

Soccer anyone? |
The neighborhood continues to surprise (in good and bad ways), although we did spot a soccer field and basketball courts (of sorts) on our way in.
